I admittedly have not done the math, but I remember being seriously peeved at how much useless shit clogs DP (Bibarel, Kricketune, the Wormadams, Carnivine which is mediocre at best yet can take literal days of your life to catch, Empoleon is shit by movepool for most of the game, Vespiqueen can take literal days of your life to catch and is mediocre, Lopunny is legitimately useless, Chatot can't be caught until right before the last gym and is shit comparatively to its place in the game, Lumineon is mediocre and water filler at best, etc)
Slow as they were, at least every single mon you could catch in SM was viable ingame and had its good qualities in relation to its rarity (well....pyukumuku added a challenge mode)
