both have their merits, recently I decided to finally pay the 5 bucks for pokebank and finally send my gen 4 buddies to Ultra Moon, and dealing with gen 4/5 walking was a tad annoying having to use the d-pad over the circle pad which is smoother. Also side note the gen 3 to 7 process is a pain, full of useless minigames.

That's in very particular areas, what if I go down one of the narrow walkways that tauros can't fit through? Only thing I could see would be having pokemon recalled to the ball automatically when following you through there, which i doubt gamefreak would implement

They did that in HGSS though

I remember my Pokemon being immediately recalled to its ball in Clair's Gym, and bigger Pokemon were recalled before entering a building period. They could just do that. Once there's enough room, the Pokemon can be called back out.

back in hgss you could have lugia flying behind you down 1 tile wide paths no problem. I don't see narrow paths being an issue, since they won't make the following models be realistically sized anyways

It's much more free, I know that sounds vague, but it's more natural feeling to be able to go diagonal as opposed to always having to do some type L shape movement. So free movement allows for more natural movement,and grid more precision albeit at the cost of cost of fluidity.

Just look at ORAS (and to a slightly lesser extent, XY) to see how fucking horrible it looks to have rectangular edges all over the goddamn place in 3D.

Lots of things I don't like about SM, but at least the environments actually look natural this time.
