>>34292006I want them to break the tradition of expecting every single player to be a newcomer to the game.
Just bring back the difficulty setting and have it introduced right from the get go. Even something as simple as higher levels and an extra Pokemon on major boss trainer teams would be nice. Give them SOME kind of strategy, even if it's as simple as "try to debuff or status the player's Pokemon so that another Pokemon can set up" or something. Or like... Dakim in Colosseum had a strategy where one Pokemon uses Protect and the other uses Earthquake. Simple, but a strategy nonetheless.
Implement three difficulty modes and call 'em by trainer class or something.
>Preschooler For kids completely new to the series and just want to get to the end with their favourites and win. Full of hand holding, impossible to actually lose as it'll implement a "try again" function in a battle. Basically the mode for babies and wimps.
>Rising Star: For players who just want an average challenge. Some hand holding but not too much. Manage just fine if you aren't braindead or if you've played a Pokemon game before, or even an RPG before.
>Ace Trainer: For players who want a challenge. No hand holding whatsoever. NPCs will mention stuff in passing like "I'm sure you know how to catch a Pokemon, so go out there and build yourself up a team" and then they just fuck off. NPCs will bring up or mention any new mechanics the game has to offer but that's it. No more "here let me heal your team" every two steps. Major trainers have more Pokemon and some semblance of a strategy, reaching full teams after a certain point. Most trainers will just have more Pokemon and the player can be worn down through sheer numbers.
