XY in itself make it clear mega evolution was a new thing and not anywhere else at that point, its said in game that fairy types are a newly classified type, ORAS completely contradicts this.
Its said that RSE happen in a universe where mega evolution is unknown in ORAS, but that doesn't mean it never happened, personality I believe that this would mean that its less of retconning XY to fit into the same canon with ORAS, and more that ORAS is just a canon where mega evolution was more common place.
Events all happen the same just with mega evolution being a thing, XY would still happen in this universe, but they aren't some unknown factor.
SM/USUM do happen in the ORAS universe however.
Also if you want to be THAT guy, the origianl RGBY and GSC were in their own timeline away from the other stuff anyways, since Red was redesigned to have different clothes and a different hair color in FRLG, said FRLG design is reused in both HGSS and BW2, Red's older design is running with brown hair like his redesign as well.But that's my two cents on the matter.
