Even to this day I find myself running the d-pad in a circle or pressing left/ right in time with the shaking. I know it doesn't do anything but dammit it's a hard habit to break at this point.

I still hold Down + B, been doing it since Gen I. Found myself doing it against Tapu Lele a few weeks ago.

can't break that habit for some reason. Same with not capturing anything until after the first gym.

My brothers and I genuinely believed you had to do it during the capturing go increase your chances. On long car rides, we used to take our Gameboys against the hard plastic of the car, preferably wherever we could get an angle like the curve along the window of he backseat cup holders, and just rub the buttons back and forth vigorously.

Kind of like how pic is holding the sponge, except it wasn't on leather.

I remember my parents bought my little brother and I each a gameboy color and Pokemon blue to share on the same day I had some sort of baseball practice. During the entire practice he sat at the main menu watching the pokemon slide by one by one and whenever I got the chance I'd run over to see which pokemon he was being shown.
