>>34320557It's about 8-12 years, which does roughly correlate to three generations. A big part of that has to do with people in their late teens and early 20s coming back to the series after their "I'm too old for this shit" phase. Once they get out of the college years, they either leave the franchise completely or mellow out and realize it's not worth arguing about. Then the next wave of kids come in and start yapping about how great the generation they grew up with was.
The first time I remember it happening was when gen 4 brought back a wave of gen 1 fans. There were a few months of everyone claiming Pokemon was back to top form, followed by a lot of bitching about Electavire and Magmortar.
