Platinum wasn't that good of a third version.
You know what the issue was? Let's stop comparing third versions. Look at Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. After the box legend pops in and starts wrecking havoc throughout the whole fucking region, we need to travel to a hidden city in the fucking ocean and through molten magma/dangerous deep-sea currents just to fucking stop it.
Meanwhile, after Nebby evolves, Necrozma pops in, the sky gets dark in ONE AREA, with a vague hint that ultra beasts are being fought somewhere, then we go to Ultragosdfblopolis, a "city" that's essentially a closed off hallway leading to an elevator. We fight Necrozma twice and we're done essentially.
Fuck third version comparisons. My issue is USUM sucked ass compared to ORAS. Or if you wanna compare third versions, Emerald.
And why the fuck did the sky get dark after leaving Kukui's place? That's never even fucking explained. The fact none of the "evil" teams are even really villainous also sucks. There's no tension whatsoever in the main plot. Yeah there's rainbow rocket, but that's just a glorified Ubers-using boss rush.
A myriad of things could have been done to make it better. Make Ultra Megalopolis an actual fleshed out city. Have Necrozma actually GOING THROUGH Ultra Deep Sea, Ultra Forest, Ultra Plant while we chase him. All this would have required is some extra wormholes in these areas honestly. Have the darkness overtake all of Alola while this is happening.
USUM dropped the ball. I don't hate it because I'm comparing it to other 3rd versions. I hate it because I'm comparing it to other Pokemon games in general and the story fucking falls short of my expectations. Expectations that don't actually take much thought or effort.
