Xerneas/Yveltal have an actual location where they live and you go there with Lysandre where he betrays you and captures them to use for the ultimate weapon.

Anything would have been better than "lol I'm randomly going to announce that I'm evil and that i've had the legendary pokemon the entire time".

The rival has a brief moment where they're tempted to join Lysandre. I know it sounds like edgy fan-game crap, but they just seemed so damn stressed with how much better the player is that I always felt it was going somewhere.

So, here’s an idea. If we go off the feed’s info that 1, Lysandre is your stepdad, and 2, he gets you both your friends and your dex, he was probably trying to make sure you can have a journey like a normal kid before he blew everything up.
