maybe we needed the outlines because the colors bleed into each other.

It is mandatory on citra because of what the outlines do when you increase the internal resolution, if you want it to look pretty, you have to remove outlines

Colosseum had everything for everyone, unique pokemon not available elsewhere at the time, double battles & two special ribbons for ribbon autists like me, I bought a gamecube just so I could snatch a vibrava, trade it all across the generations andwin every single ribbon with her

Outlines are an intentional design choice based on Sugimori's artstyle, like everything else in the 3DS games. If the Switch games continue this trend, outlines will stay.

Outlines look good on sprites and artwork. 3D models are another story.

Copying the Sugimori art for 3D was a bad choice to begin with. In XY it sort of works because everything else is consistent with that art style. But then you get to ORAS and SM which make the overworld saturated as fuck and you're still left with these shitty looking unsaturated models.
