I like it, especially with Rough Skin referencing that it's one of the few theropods known to actually have scaly scutes. But Rough Skin is Shark Skin in japanese, so maybe Iron Barbs instead? And go ahead with the Rock/Steel, of course.

Druddigon also gets Glare, which is called "Snake Glare" or something similar. Druddigon is an odd one. My theory is that since Unova is based on NY, they decided to use the english names for the rationale for some moves and abilities of some Unovan mons, but it's just headcanon right now.

I don't really see what a Megalania would add to the table that a proper Komodo Dragon could not. Both are monitor lizard known for being the biggest extinct/extant lizards and are believed to look and act pretty similar.

But if Kommo-o is going to be our only Komodo representative then I'm all for a Megalania mon too.

I don't think kommo-o is really based on komodo dragon, but just a dragon/dinosaur thing with scaly armor. So, in some way, komodo dragon and Megalania theme pokemons are still okay I guess.

A lot of pokémon based on extinct animals aren't Rock. It is only the few that are made into Fossils that require the typing.
Extinct animals that end up as Ancient Power evolutions or just your average mon don't need to abide to that.

I neat touch would be to make Ice Age fossil that are part Ice instead of Rock. Another neat twist would be to have "fossil" Pokemon that are based on ancient artifacts.

The case was usually that Tyrannitar looked like one of the earlier interpretations of T. rex, with the vertical back and dragging tail. T. rex is also confirmed to be part of the inspiration behind Godzilla.
