I gave my mimikyu its exclusive z crystal cause I like the move animation

its actually real useful in the battle tree to have a z move attack when you simply cant cover everything with only 3 pokemon, but I guess the ghost zmove might be better for that since its only resisted by dark and normal

Except in formats that have the item clause. Swords Dance is only better than Z-Splash if you give Mimikyu a Life Orb. If you plan on giving your Life Orb to another Pokemon, then the Z-Crystal has some use.

Smogon conveniently discards that clause so of course they have the liberty to say SD > Z-Splash.
