I think he's saying because of the rematches. If rematch teams are canon than Gym Leaders are all just under Elite Four level are holding back in the Gym fights.

It's not that uncommon. Kanto, Johto, and Sinnoh Leaders all had rematches in Gen IV, the Hoenn Leaders had ones in Emerald, and Cheren and the triplets had post-game fights in B2W2. There's also the Kalos Leaders in the Battle Chateau, and the first five gens in the PWT if you count those.

Earthbound doesn't exist for some strange reason, so Smash Bros. doesn't have Ness or Lucas but it does have Ash Ketchum in Brawl instead of Pokémon Trainer [Red].

Even though rampant pokephilia is a headcanon of mine i decided to leave it out so there wasn't a chance that this thread would turn into a bunch of people screaming about furfags and waifus. Gym leaders have their own personnel teams, but use a low level team for gym battles so the novices don't have to challenge elite 4 level foes

That there are 4/5 different timelines (that we've explored so far):

USUM is probably the most confusing one since I'm not at all sure if it's part of the Mega timeline and SM are there own entity or vice versa (most other third versions unify the story, so it's much easier to take those into consideration and ignore the first versions ala RS or DP). Then again, you could make an argument that third versions are there own universe/timeline and that when it comes to first versions, they all split into two different timelines (R > G > R > D > B > etc being Timeline A and B > S > S > P > W > etc being Timeline B).......my head hurts.
