If so it will probably work like:
>Set Fusions for certain pairings (I.E., Machamp and Nidoking)
>Pokemon with Megas, unique Z-Moves, or Alola forms don't get Fusions
>Both corresponding Pokemon must hold an item enabling them to fuse
>Activated like Mega Evolution
>Both Pokemon must be in your party and not KO'd
>Fusion comes in at full health
>Probably has a pre-determined moveset or takes half of either (move placement becomes relevant)
>Probably has a BST well over 600
>Likely broken as shit as both Pokemon could be injured and still fuse
>Anything with Sturdy that gets a Fusion will be insane

More like a cheap tactic for a gimmick. Also, if this kind of indirectly confirms that whatever Trio master we might get in the future, they will be made very weak to compensate with a new form later. Welcome to the future, folks.

As much as I hate the notion of fusions, Palossand and Hippowdon would be a match made in heaven. I could see a Vanilluxe + Cherubi combo too.

To add to that, the fusion would probably work in a way that takes the main typing of both pokemon.

Shedinja (Wonder Guard) - Bug
Aggron (Sturdy) - Steel
Bug/Steel is only weak to fire.
Shedinja can learn Leech Life.

There would be pre-determined pairs. They would never put Shedinja with Aggron or something silly like that.

Besides, Aggron has a mega anyway. Megas likely won't get Fusions just like they didn't get Alola forms or unique Z moves.

No. GF knows that making fusions into a normal mechanic will not be taken well by the public. They want to keep it as a story mechanic.
Next gen isn't going to feature some massive new mechanical gimmick, it's going to be expanding the battle bond ability and re-type/stat a LOT of Pokemon and say it's a soft reboot.

They're also going to say that rebalancing the game is why the games are remakes of gen 1, not FRLG, and there's going to be a sign on cinnabar saying "the sevii island ferry project has started!"
