Neither is bullshit. The myth is about a carp climbing a waterfall up a mountain, you know like real carps can do. Nowhere in the myth or the dex is stated that it has to be in one leap. The myth is all about persistence and social climbing.

Why not? A human can climb a mountain one step at a time but a Magikarp can't climb a mountain one seven foot leap at a time? If anything they'd be way more efficient than a human, provided they stuck their landings.

Also it can be assumed that the Magikarp able to to climb a mountain are at the verge of evolution, given the requirements for the carp to become a dragon in said myth.

The entire point is moot anyway because it just says "a mountain". The smallest mountain in the world that is still officially a mountain is only 486 feet above sea level and just 141 feet above the surrounding plains. At that rate a Magikarp could climb it in just 21 leaps.

It also says it in multiple regions, so it's using "Mountain" as an average/catchall

Gen 7's entries really reinforce the ghostly nature of the Ghost types. Even for Gastly it goes out of its way to say it's both gas AND souls, not just a Pokemon born from poisonous gasses.

What? Magikarp evolves to Gyarados, which is clearly based on the dragon in the myth. If you're just going "muh not Dragon type" then you're just arguing semantics and missing the point. The point about it being close to evolving was indeed an assumption on my part, since mimics its inspiration, and the dex mentioning its advanced age, usually an indicator of a pokémon being able to evolve. But as many have said climbing some radom mountain isn't a huge feat and it doesn't stop it from being pathetic.

Gen 7 Dex entries are the most lore we've ever gotten for the series and it'd be stupid to toss it aside just because of a handful of retarded shit about Magcargo and Kadabra. I like that they add small tidbits not seen in the game to add a little extra spice to the pokémon. Your entry is fine, but if every entry was just an more elaborate move description they would quickly get boring to me.

I guess, but couldn't you just cut out the middleman and use it in battle from the start? This only applies to Pokemon with unique abilities or signature moves, after all.

I never understood this, but why is it okay in these games to capture pokemon made up of dead human souls. And further why are we allowed to use them in battle, GF won't let us become Team Rocket members because that's evil, yet using the souls of people who can't move on into the afterlife, for battle, is totally good for some reason.
