Correct me if I'm wrong, but can they incorporate these forms ever again? Was this just a Gen 7 gimmick or will they bring them back in Gen 8?

Alola mons are a good way for GF to add new Pokemon and and let past ones shine at the same time. It's also their workaround to reaching 1000 Pokemon since they seem terrified of it.

Will it come back in gen 8? It's a nice idea, so probably not. If it does comeback, it'll probably be only for Kanto mons again. Maybe one or two Johto mons, if we're lucky.

I'm hoping Z moves will be what GameFreak gets lazy about doing more of in the future and regional variants become a recurring thing. After all, regional variants are just GameFreak's laziness channeled into something positive.

Nintendo in general has a tendency to focus a huge chunk of their ad campaigns around one dumb thing that isn't actually all that interesting, and for Gen 7 that was Z moves. So this actually bodes well for regional variants.

Regional variants are too cool of an idea for them to just throw away. Even if they won't make any more Megas or Z-Moves, they gotta at least consider keeping these. It's just too darn neat.

Also, I think it'd be cool if there was an Alolan embassy or something in the next game where you can get Alola Forms

Nah, knowing Gamefreak they'll do something stupid like making the Strange Souvenir function serve as an Alola incense.

I for the life of me don't understand why GF can't tolerate things being exclusive or rare. Why shoehorn every legendary into every game and try to add half the existing Pokemon into the regional dex.

Nah, they already have a method to breed the current Alolan forms. Just swap the Everstone's functions between the original and Alolan forms. Raichu/Exeggutor/Marowak are fucked though

because VGC. Like it or lump it, they decided to go with the region only/national 'dex only/anything goes for their ruleset formats so need to add in the buttload of legendaries every couple of years for it.

The Alolan forms were created specifically for the 20th anniversary. It is unlikely we will get any more regional variants until we hit yet another anniversary milestone and/or Gen VII remakes. Hell, the fact that we didn't get any new Alolan forms for USUM supports them just being 20th anniversary even further.

But then again Game Freak changed their minds about not releasing Pokemon games on VC, as well as limiting customization options to just in XY, so maybe we might get some regional variants in future games if we keep pestering them.

The short answer is: Don't expect any new regional variants for Gen 8 until we pester the shit out of Game Freak just as we did for ORAS.

I wish people would stop pretending like they don't want to get to 1000 Pokemon,they don't care about the number of legendary Pokemon we've been getting, they won't care about the number of Pokemon there is, now we have pokebank, it doesn't matter what number they go to, we'd already have all the past gen pokemon and all we'd need to get is the new Pokemon.

Regional forms should've happened a long time ago, like gen 3. Instead of constantly making to tons of new mons to fill roster roles they should've been making regional variants.

For instance, need route 1 mons? Make regional variants of Pidgey and Rattata. Now that doesn't have to always happen. For regions like Unova or Kalos that are much farther away from the Japan based ones, then you can of course create whole new mons to fill those shoes.

I'm not even thinking completely different 'forms', just small changes. Hoenn Pidgeys should have different feather patterns than Kanto/Johto ones. Mix the base stats up a little, keep the first two stages more or less the same, and the give Pidgeot and new typing (to replace normal) or some radically different moves. Boom, regional 'variant' of the pidgey line. Gives players something familiar, but a little different, and who wouldn't want to go shiny hunting across multiple games just so you can have all the shiny Pidgey variants?

I think that they used Kanto-mons to introduce the idea (not to mention it makes sense, as Kanto and Johto settlers went to Alola and had a significant influence on the nature there, although there are no JohtoXAlola mons). In the next games, I don't see why they couldn't do the same thing with other Pokemon, especially ones that also need the re-purposing from later gens.

Regional variants is a great way to add microtransactions to the game. imagine a strange festive variant of Charmander. At this point we just want to cosplay with the trainer and our pokemon adding a microtransaction function for costumes as an excuse for variants seems like a great way to launch its Switch career.

I'd like to see Kanto regional form if a new remake or at least a new game in Kanto exist one day. Maybe we'll have Sinnoh regional forms in next remakes.

I like when they went back and upped some stats of some pokemon. Though +10 in one stat is really stupid. Lots of older gen 1 and 2 pokemon are really middle of the road and could use bigger boosts. Give girafarig a +40 in sp.def or Arbok +20 speed, it won't make them game breaking at all. I like that they went for such changes, but they feel pointless when they're so low.

I really want regional forms to continue being a thing but they will probably stay in gen 7 like new megas stayed in gen 6 and evolving pre existing pokemon stayed in gen 4. It feels really bad, but that's probably how its gonna go

Whenever anyone thinks of Pokemon, they think of the original 150 first. That's because, other than gen 5, the original Kanto Pokemon have been prominent in every generation at some point. They are the Pokemon that every trainer recognizes, regardless of which gen they started with. A player who started with gen 2 know them, but might not know a gen 4 Pokemon.
