Boys, Ultra Necrozma is down!

After hearing about how hard it was, I knew I had to plan this out. All I did was teach Trick to my Mimikyu and Tricked Choice Specs onto it, and then I switched into Incineroar on its Photon Geyser. It's weird, because it used Smart Strike before, which I did not see coming.

Anyway, the rest is history. I wonder how I really would have fared had I not heard about Ultra Necrozma at all, though.

That was smart, thinking.. I think you would've been wiped. I had no fucking what Ultra Necrozma was (I legit just beat the game, at credits) Had I not gotten my Lilligant's affection to max, it would've have dodged the attack and then landed a stun spore to save my ass. Even with the spore it still fucking OHKO'd all of my Pokemon, exception being Primarina who ko'd it. I imagine anyone who wasn't prepared for it either got wiped or had to get lucky like I did.

Hmm, now I really wonder. My team is Mimikyu, Incineroar, Alolan Muk, Tyranitar, Bruxish, and Primeape, all level 60. I don't know what the rest of its moves are, but do you think I would've been able to handle it? Having 3 bulky dark types plus a free Shadow Claw with Mimikyu maybe could've gotten me somewhere.

FUCK I lost my Mimikyu to Araquanid's Hydro Vortex during Mina's Trial.

Any team suggestions? Right now I've narrowed it down to Vikavolt, Froslass, and Shiinotic since I'm sorely missing special attackers and I've never used any of these guys before.

Post Dragon Trial update
I'm so tired of this fucking game and it's fucking bullshit.
Seafolk Village fished and caught a Wailmer. Poni Wilds I killed the encounter Granbull. Ancient Poni Path it came back, so I caught it. Clawitzer for Breaker Coast, Machoke for Canyon. Oh, and Exeggcute for Exeggutor Island (shocker, right?)
Vast Poni Canyon's Poipole was easy. The trainers, however, fucking suck. So many close calls, so much heal stalling and random crits...
I had to go restock after almost every battle. Lost both Sandy and Greyskull to dumb shit and Veterans with 30 IVs. I Toxic cheesed the trial and totally intend on doing so again with Necrozma. I just can't find it in me to care right now.
I know this update is shitty, I'll try to bring flavor text back next time.
(Greyskull and Sandy are only alive in the picture because of Lillie healing; I was too pissed off to fly to the PC and back again)

Froslass is fast but hits quite weakly and has no good boosting moves, I used it previously in 4th gen and didn't like it. I haven't touched the other 2 either but I would go with Vikavolt since its typing has much less weaknesses.

I just captured a Pokemon wherever the wavy title appeared. So in the route 1 block, I caught a Pokemon in the trainers school, hau'oli outskirts, and the route 1 path. (another example: for route 2 block, I caught a Pokemon for hau'oli cemetery, verdant cave, and route 2)

that said, sadly nala died right before getting to ecruteak, friggin double battles are always dangerous

on the plus side, ninetales has drought in this hack which does make one hell of a difference, wish nidoking had sheer force but eh, apparently it got a few small boosts to it's atk and sp-atk instead so still damn powerful

Anorith was easy; Aerosmith 2HKO'd it with Rock Tomb and took minimal damage. Lileep however, was another story.
I planned on using Ray to take out Lileep regardless of a grass weakness, it was the only mon that could take a hit from it. Giga Drain 3HKO'd, but then it got the omni boost from Ancient Power TWICE. IN. A. ROW. I did what I could, lowered its speed with Icy Wind, but it ultimately ended in Ray's death.
Leila was my saving grace, she was able to set up with Growth on Lileep and take both it and Lycanroc out with Giga Drain. Sadly, I'm going to have to leave her in the box until I get my hands on a Sun Stone, she's at level 28, which is when it learns Quiver Dance.
Planning on using Aerosmith for the Electric trial, resisting Iron Head and immunity to Electric is sure to help out.

The problem with YouTube playthroughs is that they really want to win and have a full playlist, so they tend to employ more mercy rules. Also a lot of them are randomized. Also most commentators are pretty annoying
Hardytekyoyo has some good runs, I'd check out his Blaze Black and Leaf Green Egglockes personally. His Emerald Randomizer is pretty comfy too.

Steel type is the best most of the time because it resists Dragon, and a lot of the time in Pokémon campaigns they stick you against strong Dragon types that either shit on Ice types or your under developed Dragon, or you can't get any Ice or Dragon type in the first place

Use Mudbray for everything except his ace. So first of; Sarah v. Sableye.

It took two High Horse Powers, and Sarah surviving on 18Hp.
Then came Krokorok. I sent out Garfield to lower it's attack and heal Sarah.

Then came the ace, Alolan Persion It only used Fake out and Power Gem on Callum who won using two Brick Breaks. And I was scared for no reason. Again.

Yes. SM added the ability for trainers to have custom IVs, EVs and natures. In past games they just had random natures and zero EVs.

Her Flamethrower did NOT take out Vikavolt, leaving it in red, and she died to Thunderbolt. Ruby used Psychic to avenge her fallen comrade
Then came Masquerain, AKA the destroyer. It went down in one(1) Power Gem.

After that some kind of, what? Ultra Skwad? came at me with Nasty Plot Poipole. Sheila laughed and spammed Earth Power and ThunderWave to victory.
Going to take on Lusamine tomorrow, wish me luck lads.

Back again, with another Emerald Nuzlocke. This time I got past Wattson who stopped my last two runs... and it was super easy, since I had Pebble to land some sick magnitudes and evolve afterwards. (Before my last two runs, I would have been sad to run into a Geodude instead of a Makuhita. Not this time.)

You'll notice half my team is sort of garbage, and the rest has an awkward level disparity. This is mostly because I lost two pokemon almost right before I reached the gym. RIP Sacher and Filico, they were two of my favorites this run. I was super happy to have a modest Grovyle, and never used a Taillow before. Sorry I underestimated a Meditite's ability to kill from full health, Filico.

I guess I need to decide which, if any, of Screamer, Truffles, and Scruffy should be trained. Having an intimidate on the team would be very nice, I like Exploud a lot (but have used it quite a bit in the past), and Breloom would be a nice grass-type replacement which fills two types I don't have yet. Hmm.

Getting past Wattson was bittersweet without the two mons I cherished most.

Overall, the trials of fire I have faced have been both pretty easy and very frustrating. It's hard trying to keep levels even when only two of your pokemon are equipped to deal with the type that's everywhere... scratch that. Only one pokemon. A random wild numel went ham and shook the Earth so hard that I'm pretty sure the whole of Lavaridge town should be destroyed, killing my poor VESUVIA. I was also quite sad that the Jagged Path only ended up giving me a Machop, when I was really hoping for a Torkoal or another Numel.
Fourth gym was a breeze, and hopefully now I can have Pebble really just take a backseat. I'm looking forward to seeing how Puff does. Truffles is also a badass.
Oh, and any thoughts on evolving Pebble? I've seen people set specific levels they'll let their trade-evo pokemon evolve at, but I also might just limit myself to never evolving her since she already feels like a powerhouse (albeit a powerhouse that will implode if anyone happens to spill some water or drop a plant).

Regular trainers don't have shit, but stronger trainer classes get EVs and IVs, culminating with the Veteran Trainers that have 30 IVs on everything and 252/252 key EV spreads, as well as beneficial natures.

I personally just evolve them at 40, its a pretty reasonable evolution level for final stage.

Hard mode could have been a bit of a pita but normal is easy, the emolga doesn't have AA
Hard mode also would have had a joltik with energy ball and x-scissor

I realised Lucario learns bone rush at 29 which gave me the ground type move I needed. It turned out to be extremely easy because of AI retardation, her emolga and zebstrika outsped me (-spd nature really hurts) but they kept spamming pursuit for some dumb reason which did almost no damage. I thought gym leaders were supposed to have better AI.

Just beat Totem Mimikyu pretty easily. Decided on an Intimidate strat and swapped between Skarmory and Stoutland before taking it out with Iron Head. Got lucky with the Steel types, if I didn't I don't know what I would have done.

As long as you don't mind paying for it. Bank stores everything and can transfer it to any compatible game. Might as well bank your boxes, nuzlocke it and then transfer back.
Easiest way to maintain a living dex, too.
Or you can just back up your save with JKSM/backup program of choice and restart it.

It's a different "app"/program on the 3DS. When opened, it accesses the boxes of the specified Pokemon game and you can transfer what you want to it (with the exception of HM Pokemon, items and non-legal stuff). After you save, it stores the info on their servers and any compatible game can access it and retrieve those Pokemon, unless a gen 6 game wants to retrieve gen 7 mons (gen 7 mons are any Pokemon that have been in a gen 7 pokemon game, not just the pokemon in the Alola dex).

Bank doesn't automatically change their format, so .pk6 pokemon thrown in bank stay that way until they touch gen 7, not to mention backing up your save with any tool of choice for later restoration. PKHex can export Pokemon data, meaning you can use it to store all Pokemon in your PC, though you'd have to do one by one.
There's also a bank equivalent that's free, but not only is it CFW-only but I don't really know how it works because I've never used it. This is certainly the best time to store pokemon for posterity but the way you go about it determines how you can retrieve them later on.

Got my go-go goggles, entered the desert to fight some trainers and get some mons. The Baltoy I wanted self destructed, but I got a Trapinch in the Mirage Tower, plus the Claw fossil.

Another Trapinch shot out from the sand and clamped onto Pharaoh. I tried to put him back in his ball and bring out Truffles, but I could not. He was trapped in the sandstorm, and I could only watch in horror as he sank down into the deep sand. He was just one level from evolving, and I'm sure he would have won the fight as a Manetric...

Trying to push the thoughts out of my mind, I went to challenge Norman. I remember Dad; he loves sloths. I trained on the rest of the trainers, powering up my pokemon, until only Norman remained. Majesty was going to be my perfect answer to his Slakings. Protect, Toxic, and then protect every other turn, never letting them get a hit.

Looks like I misremembered. Norman got some new team members in Emerald, so while Majesty was a great answer to Slaking, she only had one Slaking to cheese. Truffles and Pebble took the rest of the duty, taking down his Normal-ass mons.
Pebble just had to take down Linoone, his last mon. Easy. Just rollout to victory.

...Pebble, I always thought of Graveller as another bland rock type with 4x weaknesses. But you were a hero to me, I couldn't have even GOTTEN to Norman without you. I'm sorry I didn't plan for the sudden belly drum shenanigans. Forgive me... you rock.
Truffles came back in with a Mach Punch and murdered that fucko. I guess... I guess I did it.

Alright guys, I have a real problem. I can't think of anywhere I haven't caught (or failed to catch) a Pokemon. I never got an old rod in Dewford, and Mr. Briney is gone. I need to surf to continue to progress the game, but the only pokemon I have that can learn surf is my Whismur, who needs to evolve into EXPLOUD to surf.
Is there anything I might have missed, or am I screwed? No surfer in 18 mons...

Followed this advice, caught a slave marill and used it to catch one pokemon in Petalburg City. That pokemon ended up being a level 32 marill. Nice, I stuck surf on it and finally started my adventure into TOO MUCH WATER.
I went everywhere I could think of to 'grind'/progress; specifically New Mauville and all the open ocean routes. Then I continued on my main quest, and everything went pretty much fine.
Majesty learned light screen, so now the only damaging move Majesty knows is toxic, which is amusing (albeit not optimal?)
Two more members were lost, however. One was to pure stupidity on my part, thinking my Slugma could tank a water gun from a (pretty low level) wingull.
Acantha was sad to lose. She fucked up a bit beforehand, knocking out a wild manetric with a crit before I could catch it... and then she got rekt. She must have been antsy, because she was so close to sprouting wings and becoming a dragon... Well, welcome back Jiggy.
Time to plan out my approach to this gym. Or just let Kaboom go to town

Outrage. I had to keep switching between everyone to take it (including Tyranitar hence the sandstorm). I knew Goodra had Power Whip, so I had to switch Tyranitar out for Angery the Primeape (seen in pic), who took a Power Whip and got off an Ice Punch, which did not kill. Surprisingly, it went for Power Whip again, which is how Angery is even still alive with sandstorm damage.

If the AI were smarter and went for Outrage, I'd have lost a long time member, wew.

I do 3 encounters and you are allowed to catch all 3 given the chance to run, but if you're lucky you get to walk away with 3 pokes. But the other side of the coin is that if you leave early, time out, or run out of balls no more catches there even if it was the first encounter.

Well. IT's been a good long while since an update happened and for good reason, been busy from work.
Anyway I managed to beat Ultra Necrozma from some help of two unlikly souls, one never got to see the light of day after.. Rip Clef the cleffa who sacrificed everything for everyone to see the end.
Took on the remaining totems, not much of a hassle once I got the patterns down and such, Hapu was alright but the E4 and Galdion were a pain. And almost got ran over by Turous from Haus bs i nthe end but I made it. I am Chimp now.

Post Poni update.
After consulting with the party, we finally decided on our last 2 members. The (surprising) couple of Mint and Hot Gloo joined our squad. Initially I was only going to pick up Gloo, but she wouldn't leave Mint's side, and so onwards we go.
I'm working on bringing our two newest ladies up to speed while we brave Mina's trial. The battles weren't anything terrifying, but there were stressful moments. Ilima's Komala pressed his Z-Move turn 1; luckily I switched to Owlrow and fucked him up in return.
Azula ripped Mallow to shreds, with Owlrow Plucking out the Shiinotic's delicious mushroom insides.
Kiawe tried to get cute after his Arcanine went down with Bonemerang, but I subbed in Zappy who tanked the spinning Flame Wheels and called divine lightning on his head; Azula Venoshocked the rest.
Soffy got burned and brely even got a move off.
The Totem battle was the scariest part. I Toxic'd it turn 1 and it summoned Pelipper on my Azula. Thankfully the Venoshock critted while the Pelipper stockpiled and the totem Danced and I subbed in Zappy for the kill.
Happu went down like the bitch she is; Owlrow, probably tired of all the pain and all the death solo'd her, Z-Moving the Golurk out the gate to stop Sneaky Pebbles and Leaf Blading everything in his path; Mudsdale's Payback almost one-shot him, but he hung on through sheer will and obliterated her.

Quite a bit has happened since I last opened; Groudon got woke, a submarine was stolen, a strange man made robotic versions of himself to ask me trivia questions... you know, the works. Some tragedy occurred too, though. Two pokemon were lost to the Psychic gym.
Kaboom got trapped in a fight with a Wobbuffet... which felt like a death sentence itself. Kaboom launched a thunderbolt, and Wobbuffet mirrored back a burst of energy, obliterating my sentient pokeball... I'll miss you, Kaboom. You loved zapping team aqua to smithereens. Dealing with Archie will be harder without you.
When I lost Kaboom, I realized I needed to consider rethinking my plans. I tried fishing on the Mossdeep shores, but only got 3 wailmers in a row, while I had already caught a Wailmer with my good rod in Lilycove. Luckily, I managed to get to Mossdeep and only run into TWO pokemon, so I still had one chance to fish up something on Route 124 with the Super Rod. I fished up an evil wet torpedo shark. Nice.
Jiggy's death hit me hard. Before I went aganist the psychic twins, I gave him two rare candies, to just get him evolved and ready to fight if I needed him. He felt like the only viable option when I needed to switch two of my pokemon out and... gosh. It's all a blur. I'm sorry, Jiggy. I'm just glad that after millions of years, you finally got to evolve... and I'm so, so sorry you only got to experience your new powerhouse form for only moments...
Who should be on this team? I remember I left behind an Electrode in Team Aqua's base that should still be pretending to be a pokeball... and since I've lost Kaboom, now I would be allowed to go catch it. I have plenty of other pokemon to choose from, though, and replacing Kaboom so soon feels... disrespectful?

First one down.

Babs Swung her fluff Brutally all over the Banette and Froslass. Hot Gloo flattened the sand castle with some Power Whips, Mint froze Dhelmise with Blizzard and Zappy cleaned it up by calling the lightning of the heavens on Drifblim. Almost done.

Mint was the star here, dropping the Murrican Birb, Toucan Sam and Mandibuzz. Zappy took Oricorio (Revelation Dance fire hurt like a bitch) and Owlrow proved to Hawlucha that he is Bravest Bird despite not being flying type. We outtie, hoe.

Zappy 2 shot Radchu with Bug Buzz, but Psychic hurt a lot, even resisted. Flareon was easy prey for Azula and her venom. Tauros kept rushing into Zappy, so Owlrow jumped in and cut him down. Crabominable melted easily. Owlrow came back in for a fated starter duel; it lasted exactly one Leaf Blade. Noivern, the last mon left, was just asking for Ice Beams and Mint was more than happy to provide.

After that, I sat on my throne and ruled ruthlessly for generations to come...at least I like to believe so.

Green Owlrow finally reached the top, but one last challenge still eluded him. Two beautiful mons throwing themselves at him and he just couldn't decide what to do. He cared too much about both to possibly break one's heart. In the end, the decision was taken out of this fethered hands; Babs decided to just give in and have them both. Azula was caught off guard, but adapted rather quickly. From bitter rivals in love to a threesome in record time.
Hot Gloo finally worked up the courage to declare herself to Mint who, while taken aback by the suddeness, accepted the dragoness feelings. Cuddling hasn't stopped since.
Zappy isn't as cold and stand-offish as she was before, but her heart will always belong to Thoryuu, wherever he might be. We don't bring it up, but she knows she has our complete support if needed.
Ice Ice Babe still takes care of all her friends, doting over them even when they can take care of themselves; that's just how it is.
Maelstrom stays with us on and off to look after the rest of Route 7's Magikarp. However, I doubt anyone would dare go against him.
Catherine is still lonely sometimes, but she has plenty of people around to help her on the way. The rapes/lewd looks haven't stopped, though.

I wonder what's the point of a nuzlocke challenge if you can still grind, and by grind I don't even mean running in circles in patches of grass (and I've seen people on YouTube do this on their nuzlockes) but just getting exp from normal random encounters or by fighting unnecessary trainers.

Some time ago I managed to clear Blue in a minimalist way: I had to get the least amount of exp possible and clear the game. Without RNG manip crap I only managed to to it with a Bulbasaur starter, though this was achieved with a bit of savescumming (by this I mean saving before some key fights and then reloading if I lost, not save state crap). And I'm sure with some routing and stuff you probably don't even need to do that, but it was my first attempt, so.

Hell, I even hacked a copy of Leaf Green to a friend so that enemies give NO exp and he managed to beat the first elite 4 without much struggle.

So with all this in mind, is there a point to a Nuzlocke really?

The thing is, people usually feel they are forced to use stuff like Rattata or whatever comes up first, but as I said if you can clear the game with just the starter and some HM slaves EVEN by avoiding all unnecessary battles (and even in the case you have to choose between two, choosing the one that gives less exp)

So you're basically telling me this is a sort of emotional ride for people playing these games casually (as in not knowing the games well at all and playing VERY carelessly)

Thing is: it's fun to build teams with shit that you normally wouldn't use, but have to because of the rules, as well as discovering some mons that click with your style that you didn't even know about.
Not everyone plays by just beating the exact opponents that give out optimal EVs and take the shortest route, optimizing competitive movesets and healspamming to make up the difference.
If your end goal is just get from point A to point B as efficiently as possible, or just see the credits with as little exp as possible, or even just powerlevel and overwhelm everything with a single mon, this is definitely not what you're looking for. Nuzlockes are more for people wanting a different way of experiencing games they've already played before, being made to come up with new strategies to accommodate for different encounters and the eventual death throwing a wrench in your plans.
It's a way to recapture the feel we had as children when we cared about the mons we used and immerse yourself in the games. It's not for numbers-focused people.

Besides, it's mostly for mid-casual players, anyway.
I hope you give them a try someday and end up enjoying yourself. Just try to involve yourself in that world and party for a better time. And if not, there are plenty of other challenge rulesets you can try to shake up the experience of the base games.

For Vikavolt there's Krook, which opens up a water weakness that Liligant covers, but exposes you to a shit ton of fighting weakness, Roggenrola/Boldore work really well with Eviolite, so there's that (still a fighting weakness) and there's Mimikyu with Disguise, which is the only one not to get fucked by fightans but isn't the best Vikavolt counter.

Can't say I know what it's like from a competitive point of view, but I imagine you start thinking of everything as numbers and stats, not the mons themselves.
If it were me, I'd try to find a rom hack that I don't know (preferably one that changes mechanics around) and try to nuzlocke that one.
I don't know if that would solve your problem, but it's probably your best bet.

It shouldn't be fair game because if you couldn't naturally catch it and evolve it without outside assistance, it shouldn't be used. That's why I try not to use trade evolution mons in game, Kadabra usually works just fine for me, I usually find a better rock type by the end of Graveler's usefulness, etc etc.

Honestly, it's up to you, it's your game you can do whatever you want, but those are just my own personal rules for Nuzlocke runs.

Our first failed song of this run. I guess there aren't too many fans of old school punk out here right now. I'll keep that in mind for future songs. Welp, my team might be fucked. This thing used work up like 5 times now and can one shot most of my team with headbutt. The worst part of doing nuzlockes is seeing what could have been after the fact. I have a dark type, a bug type, and two grass types to get wrecked by this litleo. I'm just hoping my sand attacks weren't in vain.

Does anyone else finish a Nuzlocke and immediately think of the next Nuzlocke to do, and then finish that, and think of what the next one after that could be? I feel like I spend as much time thinking of Nuzlocke runs I could do and what I could encounter as actually doing runs, and I've done a lot of runs. I just finished with the early game slog (running back and forth between Mr. Pokémon and New Bark Town, and creating my first team of six, and then grinding them to be on-par with Charlie), so I should be picking up speed now. I've been able to catch something on every Route, but have noticed that this team is extremely similar to the last team I had when I first attempted a HeartGold Nuzlocke. That's mainly due to the fact I play at night, and all the nighttime captures are similar in the starting areas. The good thing is that I don't mind it at all since I never finished that run, and this kinda lets me pick up where I left off.

Sprout Tower was fun, but there were a few close calls on the last floor. I wanted to keep leveling up Petra to get Rock Throw for the Falkner battle, so I kept her in the front of my party, and went switching her out with the next Pokémon in line. In this case, I sent Petra out against a Bellsprout, and Webster was next in line, and at high yellow health. I switched them out regardless 'cause Vine Whip isn't very effective against Webster anyway, but Webster got CritHit and was left with one HP. I audibly gasped for air, Potion'd Webster, and spammed Poison Sting till the Bellsprout went down. Petra's training paid off, though, 'cause Falkner's Gym was cake thanks to Rock Throw.

I'm currently exploring the Ruins of Alph, but I think I'll hold out on catching anything here. If I can, I'll use it as a hatching grounds, or save it for a better catch later on.

I have my Nuzlockes mapped out before I even finish my current one. It sucks because I get all hyped for it and lose interest in what I'm doing. Also I always plan too far ahead in the run, which can be a problem sometimes.
Right now I'm planning:
Emerald->Moon(Blind)->White(Fatigue)->Platinum
And then maybe finish Soul Silver's post game.

If i fail a run (which i do often cause im impatient and usually dont prepare correctly, also limited items in battle fuck me over a lot) i usually just swap to a different game to keep it fresh. I tried to slog through sun blind but honestly i got shit on a few times and i just cant stand sitting through those fucking cutscenes again. The Dupes Clause for me only applies to living Pokémon, not deceased ones, and yes, it does apply to the entire evolutionary line. For example, if I have a living Zubat, I may not catch another Zubat, or a member of the Evo-Line UNLESS my Zubat (or later evolved Zubat) dies. If I happen upon a Zubat, or another member of the Evo-Line further along in my run, I may catch it then. If you wanted to challenge yourself further, you could never catch any member of an Evo-Line once your primary catch has deceased, but that's never been the way I've done it.

Seeing as how I knew Webster wouldn't much of a help against Bugsy, I decided to Box him for now, and bring out Alucard, in hopes of maybe getting him a Flying Type move for the upcoming Gym. Sadly, I couldn't level him up that much, but I did make him stronger than before, so there's that.

Once again, Petra sweeped the Gym clean. Rock Throw is a God-send of an attack this early on. However, I think after Whitney's Gym, I'll be benching Petra till I need her again 'cause I still want this run to be challenging.

Speaking of challenging, I have the next Rival fight coming up, but I think I'm somewhat underleveled for it. I'm gonna head back into Union Cave to do some grinding before I take on Zatara (that's my Rival [it means driftwood]).

I wouldn't call it 'extreme easy mode', necessarily. I consider stuff like Gen VI exp share or mega evolution as easy mode. I use dupes clause because it give more variety, and it's a bit irritating having a bunch of one Pokemon.

I have three new team members since I last updated, and have made no progress. Well, not NEW new team members. I already caught all of them, but they weren't battleready. The whole point has been to train up a new member to replace Jiggy... but I lost two friends in that process. Mark VII, I didn't train you for two long, but I honestly might have wiped at the psychic gymleader if not for pulling switch shenanigans with you to tank psychics. I wish I had known you longer, and I wish I was smart enough to not switch you into a wild Claydol. I'm sorry Mark VII, I underestimated a Claydol's tendency to fuck itself... and I forgot to never use a torpedo as a shield.

Majesty's death happened earlier, but... it saddens me deeply. More than I expected it to, actually. I don't think I realized how much I loved Majesty until I lost her to some STUPID KID WHO LIKES MAKING HIS POKEMON BLOW UP. That should be illegal, honestly. I took a break as soon as I lost Majesty so I'm not 100% sure if this was actually what killed her, but it's the strongest memory I have and is my best guess. I remember it was total bullshit though. It hurt. You were my little special-tank staller, my toxic angel, my dad killer... my queen. And I didn't even realize you were my favorite team mate by such a long ways until you were taken away. I met you so early on, and we've been through so much, and I never really connected with a Dustox before (always preferring beautifly instead)... no disrespect to Filico, but you were a second starter to me. A friend I wanted to take all the way.

I haven't played X/Y, but real talk I'm glad I went back to nuzlocke Emerald because I thought the gen 6 RSE remakes were such a big letdown. I'm actually surprised ORAS still feels like such a downgrade compared to the gen 3 games, even when playing RSE now...

Friendly reminder that in gen 6 they changed whismur to learn uproar at level 25 (presumably because it now has 90 power instead of 50) so the rom hack might be going off of that. I felt betrayed when I caught a whismur in ORAS and it didn't have uproar. Really ruined the whole thematic of the cave and the pokemon too, desu,

A saddening first gym battle. I decided not to grind and do the gym as is. Big mistake, for some reason I thought Cheren's pokemon were lvl 9 and 11, not 12 and 13.

Poor Taylor the sewaddle, I thought I could keep him in for one my turn, and got ruined by damage variance. Natty the Patrat got one shot by a 2x Work Up from Lillipup. Fool beat it with a mere 1 hp remaining. It would've gone to shit without an oran berry being held.

Luckily caught a magnemite in the Virbank Complex, which makes not only the next gym pretty easy, but the third one shouldn't be too hard either (if I don't lose it before those battles).

I managed to lose Greninja, TWO Lucario, Goodra, Poliwrath, Victreebel, loads of others, finally losing Kecleon during Wikstrom, which was extremely saddening. My pair of Vivillon and Aurorus somehow worked though and was immune to the bloodbath happening to the other two pairs. Probably won't do it again, but it certainly had some memorable Pokemon.

New to nuzlocke, made my first attempt yesterday and got wiped at the second gym. Here's the current team in Emerald. 3 badges in.

I've had no casualties but some close calls, mostly because I only stuck to the most basic rules and have been using a lot of healing items. I didn't know about the duplicate clause or expanded rules though so I've been through a number of areas with no captures.

I'm surprised at how much fun this is, I've ever even bothered catching a Zigzagoon before but now Wheezy is my front man. I didn't know they could pick up items but the little fucker gave me a nugget as soon as I caught him. This is awesome.

Had so much difficulty with Theta Emerald, and now here i am. 5 Badges and working toward the 6th. team is beasting it right now, but unfortunately...the Flying Gym is next. meaning my Liepard and Seaking need to get beefier or i'm fucked. Hanz may have rock slide, but them birds can hurt. I've seen him barely survive some nasty Aerial Aces. Wish my Donphan, Elson, were still with us. That dude was a fucking freight train...that ended up killing himself due to confusion.

Watson was.... pretty easy actually. Oneweek the Combusken took care of his Magnemite, then TomTom the Linoone cut and headbutted Voltorb into the ground (but had to wait through about 5 super potions for it to KO), then I tried to wall against shock wave with Codepth (Kirlia) and Nurps (Dustox) until I decided to just try and double kick with Oneweek again since the other two were going too slow. Codepth's synchronize came in handy though; not sure Oneweek would have been able to pull through otherwise.

Also, quick question: what are your policies on HMs in Nuzlockes? I've already wasted slots in my party on Cut and Flash, and they are the pnly mons I have that can learn rock smash. Do you ever get an extra HM slave to soak those up or just buckle down and teach them to your mains if necessary?

Well good news and bad news...

Good news: Chuck was a ridiculous pushover. For some reason, he decided that it wasn't worth trying to use DynamicPunch at all and Slowking dealt with him easily. Also, most of my team is evolved now - yay!

Bad news: I realized that I've been using a retired mon for ages now lol. Oh well - I guess Tonocha will just have to go in the box forever then. I did want to try to use Sudowoodo anyway, so it's a good opportunity to do so.

Played a good deal on the train, fought Jasmine. Probably the most interesting fight yet.

Took out Magnemite with Quilava unscathed with a lucky Thunder Wave miss. Steelix came in, prompting a switch to Slowking, who laughed at its moves. However, I was under the impression that I could safely switch back to Quilava, which was not the case Tbolt was a 2KO, meaning I had to switch to my only resist in Victreebel, who slept it and chipped away. If I had played a little less safe, there was a low chance that I could have scored a KO with leftover sun from Steelix, but this method worked out well too.

Still no casualties, but Rocket stuff is always dangerous...

Also, as a first timer who isn't really sure, what's the generally accepted stance on gift pokemon, specifically optional ones? I know after Driftveil I can pick up a free Deerling, but do people consider that as no longer being allowed to catch a mon on the route, or if I caught something already, can I not use that deerling?

There are some people who are very against gift mon, but some people compromise by counting it as the capture for where it's received. I personally just don't care (I also don't count one-off interactables as captures).

I personally treat gifts/trades as static encounters: completely separate from the local captures.
On the hand I will limit my usage of those (if I can get a gift AND a trade somewhere only one of those is allowed); and even then, 98/100 times I won't even use those Pokemon if I can help it; for me, the mystery of the captures is what makes it fun.
The exception is when applying randomizers and those gifts/trades are changed as well.

I generally class the gifts minus the starter as the encounter for that area - for instance in Alola's Seafolk Village, I either get the gift Aerodactyl OR a fishing encounter, not both. Usually, if given an option, I'll go the random grass way unless I really want that gift.

Based water serpent for water STAB, which you lack, as well as protection from the MASSIVE fighting weakness of your team.
Krook fills more or less the role you lost.
Bruxish might also be a good idea, as it has Psychic STAB and can be protected from Ghost and Dark by one of your darkies.

Besides that, I just wanted to state the reason for such a change in the party was to prepare for the Whitney fight. I've had trouble with her and Miltank's Rollout, and I was at a serious disadvantage with the old team because of their Rock Type weakness'.

The next full update should be after Whitney, so keep an eye out for it.

I just took on Whitney's Gym after an all-nighter of grinding, and I'm glad to say my streak of not losing any Pokémon during the Gym battles is still going strong.

There were more CritHits than I can count, and Lily faced certain death multiple times, but I was able to pull through thanks to her Mud Shot lowering the Speed of so many Pokémon. Fied was a big help, too, certainly with Miltank. That fat cow didn't even use Rollout once; it just kept spamming Stomp. Dillion and Fungi got some work in, too, but Mortitia, and Mashiro just sat this one out.

I really wanted to give you all an update to the template tonight, but I'm just too tired from taking my finals today, and "rewarding" myself by staying up to continue my Nuzlocke. I'll get the update to you all tomorrow. G'night.
