I've never experienced any media from gen 2. Didn't watch the show, the movies or play the games. Should I play HG/SS or not?

I didn't say I knew nothing about it, just that I hadn't experienced it. I've heard some bad things about HG/SS. For example, the level difference between gym leaders is low and that your party will be obscenely higher level compared to npcs.

The low level curve really is the worst thing about it, other than that, it's a solid game. One of my favorites, for sure.

That level curve issue occurs because after you reach a certain point in the games, you are given multiple different routes to go to and they wanted to make sure that players could choose whatever path they wanted without getting stopped by overleveled opponents.

I just started a replay of my soul silver a few days ago. I still highly recommend, they are great pokemon games, definitely in the top 3 (hard for me to pick an all time favorite, these are contenders)
