Story is great but the pacing is lacking.
Also, there was too much exposition and I was hardly invested in any of the characters.

The music was great as always, the gameplay was good, and the story was meh.

The ending was less moving than Explorer's and Gates'.
The pacing was terrible.
The early game coddling was obnoxious.
The society members got very little screen time and were underdeveloped because of it.
The break system was annoying.

Explorers remains the overall best game and Gates still has the best writing.

Unfair difficulty at times and you really have to strategize/abuse wands late game because everything will skullfuck you. Constantly running out of PP. However, great music, decent characters, and looks nice. The way recruitment and parties are handled feels a little like a step back, or at least kind of trivializes the effort it took before. I liked it, and it had some amazing tracks, like Gentle Slope Cave. Subverts a major trope of the first two games near the beginning of the game. All in all, 6/10. Explorers was way better, but this is still good.

My first PMD, very nostalgic to me. Haven't played it in a long time but I'm guessing it hasn't aged well, I could be wrong it might still hold up well. I just finished UM so maybe I should emulate it, story is a bit lack luster compared to the second one though.

Great, love the story and characters. The Partner is one of the best in the series. Soundtrack is god like, just so many good things about it.

Trash.

>PMD4
Better than PMD1 but not as good as PMD2. The gameplay is much better than 2 IMO, but the story is worse than it. It got recruiting wrong IMO, I think the other games did it better. But it's still pretty fun.

I hope they make another entry in the series, revolving around Ultra Beasts, please make either Guzzlord or Necrozma the final boss. I really like Pokemon bosses more than I do "entity" things.

It has the same online features as the first couple of MD games.
Mega Evolution are hard to achieve.

Story was a trainwreck, albeit with some great moments here and there.

Gameplay is easily the best in the series. Got 100% in Super, whereas I put down the others once the post-story events were done.

Fun since you can recruit basically all pokemon and you can teach plenty of moves. I greatly enjoyed it but I still have nightmares from seadra / kingdra hydro pumping me and my buddy in the story mode for all of our reviver seeds

Soundtrack's still great, and the story is a bit better (slightly weaker characters, though the plot isn't an utter mess), but the gameplay itself is kind of shitty. Sure, I could play without the 'away' restrictions, but why would I want to play as anyone aside from me and the partner without in-base levelling and team mates without IQ? Felt like I was forced to choose between monotony and terrible AI. Also, the quality of life changes since then did make Super far smoother than Sky.

It's my favorite Mystery Dungeon, but keep in mind I like slice of life shit, which is what this game's story is until shit goes down. Pacing is a bit off, but it ends up satisfying in the end.
Gameplay wise, it's the hardest Mystery Dungeon. PP and Item management skills are basically required to progress through the game, as regular attacks do 5 damage and you fight a level 50 Salamence when you're around 20.
Lots of shit to do, a fair bit of fan service, satisfying story, I liked it a lot. Difficulty had been noticeably lacking in Gen 6, and this game really picked up the slack.

-Can't nickname mons you get, or get multiple of the same mon (with some exceptions), so you're screwed out of making actual characters or meme teams
-Break system can mess up your teambuilding, forcing you to make a B and C team in case everyone's suddenly on vacation
-Connection orb can lock certain Pokemon out for ages (I remember hearing someone getting cucked out of getting Zangoose until he nearly completed everything)
-made regular attacks useless for some reason? I get it makes PP management more vital, but I shouldn't need to use my moves on trash mobs.

It's not a bad game, but I think it didn't live up to the sky high expectations that were set up by PMD2, so it feels kinda "eh", even if it's a fine game in it's own right. As for the connection orb, I think it's part good and part bad? The thing is getting every Pokemon in the original PMD games was a mess of RNG, and as of PMD4 there are twice as many mons as in PMD1, so I'm glad the devs attempted to remove the tedium that came with getting Pokemon, however, I don't think the Connection Orb was the right way to go about it. Maybe bring back the Connection Orb in PMD5 but also bring back classic recruitment so if there's a particular mon you want, you don't need to count on RNG?
