No they didn't, they fixed it's model between gen 6 and 7 because the ears were wrong.

Because the ears were tweeked and fixed from their abominable state into a sleek house cat that becomes ugly like it was intended. But noooo some asshole genuinely complained that the ears were no longer a perfect crescent moon thinking he knows best

It's always a special 'mon. It had a pretty cool puzzle in ORAS, was in a friend safari in XY, and an in-game trade in BW2.
Glameow on the other hand only appeared in pearl and RNG-dependent hidden areas in BW2 and ORAS (which are a true pain to get to).

Outside of crap that depended on having someone else to play with locally in BW2, the only way to get it prior to ORAS's Mirage spots was on two routes in Pearl.
