It's not a perfect game, but it's pretty good, both in the context of 3ds games and the Pokemon franchise as a whole. I think it suffers from franchise fatigue as a whole, and isn't different enough from Sun/Moon to be worth it if you have both (although I feel this way about all third versions, much prefer the remake model).
Pokemon needs some open world aspects for me to keep interest in it much longer. For better or for worse, Pokemon Switch determine how much longer I keep buying these games.
Overall a 7/10. Don't regret purchasing, the variety in pokemon choice will at least earn it a few playthroughs from me.
