Back in the day, a decade or so ago, fans would scour the auction sites for rare merch, purchase it, and scan it in at high-quality. I've been out of the loop until recently; I'm not sure what they do now. We easily spent like $100-200 to get rare media for our fandoms back in the fandom stone age. I remember buying rare Japanese Tankoubans just to get at the little colored liner pictures. :autism:
