Many are literally just my mom's animal with a horn, others are literally just my moms animal. I'd argue just drawing a regular animal and slapping on certain colors on just to represent it's type is just bad monster design. Also Gen 1 is also he biggest offender of the "it just gets bigger" trope that I've grown to despise many just look the same. And when I think of fictional evolution I don't expect the minimal amount of changes that Gen 1 evolutions did.
