What is Battle Spot?
Battle Spot is the official online ladder.
Comes in 3v3 singles or 4v4 doubles. Basically bring 6, look at preview, then bring the mons you need to win.

Glad to see a battle spot thread. Gonna phone post for a bit but I just reached USUM post game. Think I might do some battling tomorrow. Never really battled in SM, would a special celesteela be good? My favorite mon is Raichu and I want to use something that will appreciate lightning rod. Also is mega garde worth the slot or is she outclassed by Lele?

Mega garde is very outclassed by lele, and if you want to build a team around raichu, I suggest the alolan one as a Koko teammate, haven't seen much of those, but it could work.
Raichu-A can run Tbolt, Psychic/shock, Surf, and Grass Knot to take advantage of all terrains. It's very frail and sort of slow without Electric Terrain, especially if going up against a scarfer. It also can't hit especially hard.

Mimikyu basically has a free focus sash, which is immense. It also has the chance to do free set up, has an effective base 225 power Z-Move after STAB, etc. Ghost/Fairy is also really good STAB.

Ive got:
Scarf Lando-T- Earthquake/Stone Edge/U-turn-Explosion
Megagross-Meteor mash/Bullet punch/Thunder punch/ice punch
Aegislash (weakness policy)- Shadow ball/Shadow sneak/Sacred sword/kings shield

These 3 are my core. I dont mind switching them out but I found these 3 to be the absolute best pokemon in singles. What do you guys recommend I bring?

Mind you im still trying to learn the meta and relearn the game in general

Stakataka is a great Trick Room pick. With faster paced battles, trick room is a very viable team build. Good setters include Porygon2 and Cresselia (as well as Stakataka now that it as out), and good abusers are Mega Mawile and Alolan Marowak. Bulu is also a good partner because of how grassy terrain weakens earthquake so Stakataka can take one, and providing recovery. Mimikyu can also run Trick Room to get it off for free if it needs to(15% run it). Mimikyu is also S Rank, so you should use it.

A few years ago Nugget Bridge was fairly shit, but at least had evidence that people were active and some information about the meta.

Trainer Tower is barren as fuck. Haven't seen any other gathering place for any kind of VGC discussion.

Is there anyone who's been playing doubles for a while either in SM or now that has an idea what is going on?

ive been using other strongish like garchomp, tapu bulu, tapu fini in the team but most of what I have isnt so much of a wall as it is to hit things hard and kill them before they kill me.

Your team is very Earthquake weak. Maybe put a grass type like Bulu to weaken that? However, that means you probably have to drop Lando. Bulu is pretty bulky and hits super hard with Choice Band.

Gyarados is amazing overall, can change typing with mega, breaks through mimikyu with mold breaker, good speed tier after a dragon dance. Also Explosion has less than 10% usage on Lando.
On Bulu being dumped on by naga and blaze, that's what teammates are for.
Take for instance the sample core of Bulu/Heatran/Gyarados. It forms a basic Fire-Water-Grass core, Heatran can take on naga, and Gyarados pre-mega (that's why I like it so much, that changeable typing) can take on most standart Blaziken. Also Blaziken is super busted in battle spot. Only true counter is Latias, just try and check a couple sets and you will be fine.

Mimikyu isn't top used in Doubles (#29 used), but it is pretty good. Being immune to fake out, having that ability means that it can also set Trick Room for free. (Trick Room has 75.8% usage on the Doubles Mimikyu). Also, everything loves Fake Out support.

I know explosion isnt used that much, however I like the surprise factor of it and just how much raw damage it does on most pokemon. If I know I cant afford to switch, ill outright explosion on something to wittle it down and then get the kill

Knock off on the other hand seems really sketchy on a scarf lando because it cant work on mega stones and unless im hitting another lando or ferrothorn, typically what im knocking off isnt worthwhile. if you think explosion sucks then ill look into it, but as it is im convinced explosion is the truth

I am quite pleased. Although Scizor is disappointing me. Currently running it as a bulky high power pivot. I don't really need Defog support, is a bulky swords dance set much better? 90% of the time I just bring Ferrothorn instead. I don't want to drop it though.

Hey all.

I haven't played competitive in a long ass time, but I always loved Hyper Offense rain teams. I know for sure I want to use Raichu and either Kabutops or Omastar (choice between them depends the mega I get). Typically I ran Life Orb on them (tried both before and had success I like to think) but I imagine Waterium Z would be great on them. As far as a setter goes, I get that Pelliper got drizzle now, is he really better than Politoed? Hurricane + Tailwind does seem promising but I adored Helping Hand on my Politoed to boost Omastar's Muddy Water's.

Here are sets so far. Some advice on what moves to go for would be appreciated.

Raichu (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt / Volt Switch
- Nuzzle
- Fake Out
- Encore

My favorite Pokemon, very predictable but I enjoy using it. Volt Switch seems to be more helpful if I want to get more fake outs later, but less damage and can sometimes bite me in the ass if the switch in isn't prepared to take the damage.

Omastar (M) @ Waterium Z / Life Orb / Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Muddy Water / Hydro Pump
- Ancient Power
- Ice Beam
- Protect / Hydro Pump

Again, pretty predictable but reliable. Muddy Water has shaky acc. and I'm thinking of adding Hydro Pump too in order to just get a more powerful Hydro Vortex. I was also considering a specs set.

Kabutops (M) @ Waterium Z
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Rock Slide
- Knock Off
- Protect

Predictable, but stronk. IIRC it still KO's Lando-T at -1 in rain but I haven't ran that calc in forever so I could be wrong. Rock Slide STAB is nice, Knock Off is still strong right? Or should I opt for something else? CB with Aqua Jet in the protect slot is a idea too.

As far as mega goes, is it a good idea to make them physical/special depending on whether I go with Kabutops/Omastar? I'd like to have a hard hitting special and physical mon. I was thinking Garde if I want Kabutops and Mawile or Metagross if I went Omastar. I've tried both Mawile and Metagross before and had success.

I'm also considering a TR Mon. The above mentioned gimmick mon is Mismagius, I get that it's completely outclassed in every aspect by either Dusclops or Gengar but I just like it's design and it's special to me since childhood stuff. I'm looking at my Mismagius in my box and I wish I could tell exact EVs but it looks somewhat odd but it's probably bad, I can't remember what I was doing with it. It looks like

252 HP / 180ish Sp.Def / 72ish Def. Not quite sure but it looks like it'd be around there. Might have to put into PkHex and see it's exactly, if anyone could suggest a spread though that'd be much appreciated it's moveset is Shadow Ball, Wil-o-Wisp, Taunt, and Trick Room with a Calm nature.

Lastly I'll probably need a strong Grass or Fighting Pokemon, Breloom comes to mind as the perfect candidate. Anything that seems to the best, like I said I'm going through my box and the breloom I have seems to be a scarf set. Bullet Seed, Super Power, Force Palm, & Rock Tomb.

These sets are probably terrible though, I haven't done this in a long ass time. so please forgive me for the cringe. but any help is really appreciated.

It's an old set Raichu, had it since XY. It was very helpful against Thundurus though that thing is pretty much non-existent now, isn't it?

There's a very common rain spam core you can build off which is Pelipper, Ludicolo, Kingdra, Mega Swampert and Ferrothorn. Just switch whatever swift swimmers you want.

For Kabutops use Waterfall, since you're super fast the flinch chance is way more useful than the defense drop chance. I also don't think Knock Off is that useful on it, I'd probably use Swords Dance for the opportunities against protects.

Hey there, I was that guy with the rain team here earlier. I got my items and went to look at the usage charts. Looking at usage I decided Omastar will be better to hit certain threats with SE Ice Beam. So I'm certain I will be using Pelipper, Omastar, and Raichu. I was gonna get a very hard hitting physical Mega, it doesn't have to be super meta but something that does a lotta damage and forces protects. Mawile sounds good since steel types are always nice to have and it has intimidate, and it can be a good counter to enemy Trick Room teams. (I can also run a Trick Room on of my own too)

Any viable ice types not named Mamoswine or Ninetales? I really want something to do x4 damage to ground/flying and ground/dragon but hate hail and don't want another ground type on my team. HP ice isn't enought in most cases.

Changes I'm thinking off:
-Use a careful Hippowdon instead, with SpD evs to tank Naganadel and other special attackers better, since I already have Ferrothorn as a physical wall
-Replace Earhquake for Ice Fang on Gyarados for some more ice coverage, really hard choice cause earthquake is great as well
-Make Naganadel a choice attacker, as I don't have any on the team and they're always useful, not sure if scarf or specs
-Change Tapu Koko for Tapu Bulu, to cover Naganadel ground weakness and also add another physical attacker to the team (only have Gyarados now), but this would leave me without electric type attacks, also not sure if Bulu and Ferrothorn could work on the same team.

Hippo should always have Rocky Helmet or a berry. One of them should also drop Stealth Rock, though Ferro without it would probably be better as a Celesteela.

One thing I notice is that the team really relies on the 2 walls to deal with offensive threats. No priority moves, focus sash, Mimikyu, or scarfer. It's pretty important for a team to be versatile in that regard since there are some matchups where a defensive mode won't be able to deal with everything. Maybe drop double mega?

Focus Blast on Lele kind of blows without a Z-move, HP Ground or Fire is more useful. Also consider running Taunt instead of Shadow Ball, it's amazing on sash Lele as a lead and to help sweepers set up.
