Alolans are just backwards compared to the rest of the Pokemon world. They don't even have real gyms. You don't ever see Megas being shown in a negative light by people from other regions.

This is where your projection comes in, who says they're being written off and replaced? They even went out of their way to not only include Mega Evolution but give each Mega its own Pokedex description. And obviously Megas are gonna take a backseat to Z-Moves, that's the gimmick that this Gen introduced. Did you expect them to be front and center again?

There's no reason why they had to focus on one gimmick over the other. They could have still added some new Megas along with the Z-moves. Z-moves aren't even a worthy replacement. There are only 15 signature Z-moves compared to 48 Mega Evolutions.

Considering Z-Moves are central to the story of Gen 7, specifically USUM, it'd be awkward to shove Mega Evolution in there and give them the same amount of emphasis.

What's wrong with them being killing machines? I don't mind having a few killing machine pokemon around. It's not like IRL sharks and Giant Hornets aren't killing machines. Some beasts just have a natural unquenchable bloodthirst. And those that have that bloodthirst are exactly the ones you'd want to train to channel that energy into combat.

You bros ever watch Japanese Bug Fights? The Giant Hornets are hardcore motherfuckers, and don't even need to be provoked to start fighting. They just rush right in and go for the throat. That kind of enthusiasm is what you want out of a battler.

Though honestly my favorites overall lucked out. My 2 favorite Pokemon are Sableye and Metagross. Volcarona got an indirect buff via the death of Talonflame. Porygon-Z got a customizable pseudo-Mega. Rotom is likely to get more special attention in a Sinnoh revisit. My favorite NFEs (Meowth and Eevee) got an Alola Form and Z-Moves. The rest of my favorites are all Gen 7 mons.

Because it's a popular feature that people loved and generated a ton of merchandise? GameFreak is one of the only companies backwards enough to introduce popular features only to remove them or make them worse in future installments. For a multi-billion dollar franchise, this is absolutely unacceptable.

Most megas got buffed in SM though and USM makes every one obtainable in game. Masuda says gen 7 not having new ones is only to focus on Z-moves.

Exactly, it had its time in the limelight. Just because it WAS popular doesn't mean they should still be pushing it just as hard as the brand new gimmicks.

I agree, but this didn't happen with Mega Evolution. If anything they improved it by buffing certain Megas.
