Swagger makes sense because when you hurt yourself in confusion your Pokemon hits itself with a 40 BP physical move, so Swagger actually increases confusion damage.
Flatter does not.

It does. Flatter was introduced in the same gen as Own Tempo, too. Maybe not now but it would've been good used on the Slowpoke family back then.

Thanks for bringing this up. It's technically not better than Confuse Ray but some pokemon can learn Flatter that can't learn Confuse Ray.

Swagger is safe on a Special attacker, Flatter is safe on a Physical attacker.
Confusion can be good enough just because it costs your opponent a turn, not because you've flipped the coin that they'll kill themselves before hitting you.

That is the stupidest comparison you could ever make.
Extreme Speed has more priority than Quick Attack and double the amount of base power.

Okay? They could have never created the move Flatter and just gave everything that learned it Confuse Ray.
The point is, what is GF's purpose of creating the move, and what was their idea of its intended use. The best answer to that question has already been posted in this thread: Own Tempo doubles partner boosting.

No one is going to use it to confuse physical attackers like you're suggesting.

Yo Ember analogy guy here, since you fucks don’t understand. I was comparing Ember to Quick Attack. Quick Attack and Ember are both weaker variants of a stronger move solely there because having Extreme Speed or Flamethrower so early would be retarded.

It's more for doubles rather than meme Psych Up singles.

Open battle with Flatter on partner with Own Tempo or Trick Room + Berry or/in Misty Terrain, do heavy damage afterwards. Same with Swagger used under similar conditions, t's not that rare,Swagger + Persim/Lum was used back in Gen 5 VGC seasons too, now you have the Misty Terrain help.
Well you do always have the smart gorilla instructor, 50% heal berries and other power creep too now, see Gluttony Drum Snorlax and all.

So, again, Swagger for pussies. IF you're using it for the confusion, Confuse Ray is better because it does the same thing with better accuracy and doesn't jack up their SpA. Own Tempo or Misty Terrain shenanigans is the only real use for this.

I think it's supposed to hose choice-lock stuff. Like slower bulky specs/band users. Hydreigon for example. Or Rhyperior. Except why are they staying in if you can survive the hit?
