Thing is, they weren't Johto Pokemon and Kanto Pokemon. The Gen 2 Pokemon were supposed to be newly-discovered rare things in a world where there had previously only been 151 of the critters known. It was a different philosophy than what they went from Gen 3 on.

He's not wrong though. When you came back on the second tour you wouldn't have gotten a nice surprise of new pure ghost pokemon. Though on the other side, it's probably worth asking why gamefreak didn't just include more new ghost pokemon if they wanted to have a ghost gym that generation. Then we could have seen new pokemon on the first and second trip to the gym.

Literally what the hell were they thinking? Hoenn fixes everything though. Several new ghost types, dragon types, plus steel and dark are expanded. And only 2 of the new Pokemon had any relation to old mons

Yeah. Imagine if the final dungeon after going through two regions had no new and desirable Pokémon whatsoever and it had just been Golbat, Onix, Graveler and Ursaring/Donphan. Would've been a disaster.

Out of the 22 Pokemon the Johto Gym Leaders use in total, only 4 are new Pokemon. 5 when counting Magnemite due to the steel type.

Just accept it. Johto Gyms were terrible.

Was I the only who couldn't figure out how to navigate this hell hole? I was legitimately stuck in the front of Mortys gym for months when I was avkid.

It got so bad to the point where my starter was in its 40s and already caught an Entei and Raikou. Because I gave up trying and just started to battle trainers, and wild Mons.

misdreavus is no longer relevant at that point in the game, it's supposed to be an early game shitmon but you don't get it until the very end of the game
