I don't fucking get it.
GF made good designs after the tantrum people threw at them because of gen 5. They grabbed the world attention and hopes with Mega evolution and a main game going 3D. They made the best online experience that pokemon games ever got. And the game also had the biggest pokedex ever. Even with the mistakes we know XY had the game was overall a success, I met people that brought a 3ds just for it. The Pokemon Company even had a lot of attention focused on the Kalos finals so if well planned it could've been released with Ash-Greninja like it happened with Sun and Moon.
And yet GF skipped the final version. All they had to do was fill the missing content (Zygarde, train road and message, ghost girl, Xerneas florest and a bunch of other shit that at least could have been considered) and fixed the campaign pace along and made it more challenging.
