The games typechart isnt canon to the manga. Neither is it to the anime. Expecting the anime to adopt a mechanic that existed only for the sake of game balance in a PvP game is pretty stupid.

So in their own contexts is pretty legit actually.

I remember I used to think the reason that Team Rocket wanted Pikachu for Giovanni was because it was an electric pokemon who could hurt ground types.

Bullshit. People bitched about Thunder Armor Swellow so they referenced a few move mechanics in the DP arc. Means nothing when the modern anime still ignores type match-ups for le epik Ash victory.

The only thing they put an honest effort into changing was all the retarded "DODGE IT PIKACHU!" crap.
