I'd say probably Trial captains or some hybrid of gym leaders and trial captains.

Kinda hard to grasp what this game will actually look like. I'm thinking it'll be more like an open world pokemon XD instead of a typical game.

Frankly Pokemon Switch is the most important game ever to the series. After BOTW and Odyessy it needs to totally define pokemon going forward
