So calling out the sun is "Fire type" move but using the Sun energy is "Grass type" move?

Shooting a large amount of heat is different from feeding off sun heat.

a lot of creatures need the sun to live but that doesn't mean the sun rays are attacking them with million degrees of heat beam.

Scald is "boiled water". but it's still water.

Except for the fact that you charge up Solar Beam by absorbing energy from the sun through photosynthesis.

They're not "secretly grass type."
A move can have multiple ways in which it can be used/charged.
The original implementation of Solar Beam was through photosynthesis since only Grass type Pokemon learned it by leveling. They later expanded that to other Pokemon in later gens.

Photosynthesis is literally converting the suns light into energy. You’re not firing the sun heat at mons. You’re just firing converted energy obtained from the suns light. Keyword here is “converted” as in, it’s no longer heat related.

If that so then they should retcon its typing like what they did with other moves like Gust and Bite.

Judging from its Gen6+ animation, the Beam is coming directly from the sun so OP have a point that it shouldn't be a grass type move.

No. They shouldn't because it's still mainly a move that uses photosynthesis to charge it.

What you actually want it a clone of Solar Beam that's fire type.

No, because the animation literally shows a kind of purple vortex sucking up the opponent's stat boosts. It would be different if it was just an animation like Bulk Up or something.

But I guess the Japanese name is actually "Self-Suggest" and this is just the localizers being weird again.
