Ambipom actually enjoyed contests to the point where she loved them even before Dawn showed up on screen. Then they force this ping-pong bullshit so that Dawn can be tempted to give it away once and for all, because she used Ambipom too much recently and it will "hold back" the rest of her team.
Cripes, late DP was handled really badly. From a Grand Festival where Dawn unjustifiably battled Zoey in the finals (when Nando vs. Zoey was a much more appropriate finals battle; it was clear at that point that Nando was more skilled at contests than Dawn, but because Dawn's rivalry was built on a desire for the two to battle in the finals, they forced Dawn into the finals too.) To Dawn getting a Togekiss just because it didn't appear on screen yet. Togekiss could have been used by a more important NPC or even Cynthia for that matter.
The final battle between Dawn and Zoey should have been Piplup and Ambipom vs. Glameow and Gallade.
