SM were rushed games. The Fairy-type trial was missing, around 100 Pokemon (including 5 new ones) were excluded from the dex, Mantine Surfing wasn't a thing, there were plenty of closed off areas, etc.
People have unreasonably high expectations for the Switch game(s), and I don't want to be witness to the chaos that will ensue on social media if a game that does not meet those expectations ever gets released. That unfortunate scenario is more likely to occur if the Switch games are rushed to 2018.
