Yea, waiting until 2019 is the best course of action. While I myself enjoyed SM and USUM, they aren't at the top of my favorites list. I understand most of the complaints for them. That said I would want GF to wait a year to make sure it's really well polished and nice. It will be on a new console and everyone will expect a lot, so I would like it for them to really put a lot of effort into it.

Just because it has a few episodes where something serious happens doesn't mean it's not slice of life, if they were to completely change the atmosphere with some big UB plot of them taking over or Rainbow Rocket being a serious threat throughout the region then you might have an argument

For now all you have is a very small arc that will be resolved soon and leave everything back to normal

That describes pretty much every villain arc in the Pokemon anime. And this arc has been one of the longer ones, at 10 episodes.
