I was looking up badge designs and kept seeing pic related for the Earth Badge. Was this confirmed somewhere? It's always been a green feather in the games and anime, right? Even looking at the HG/SS trainer card, the Earth badge still has the feather design. Supposedly this one is based on a plant which makes some sense but I've never seen this design until today.

Yes, that's the Earth Badge. It's supposed to reference some kind of banzai tree that Giovanni is named after.
Or at least that's what TGWTG told me...

Yeah I said that makes sense, but I've never seen this in any of the games. Even the most recent Kanto iteration still has the feather.

Even Origins uses the feather design. Why did GF never use the plant design in the games from the start? I really liked the green feather (or maybe a leaf from a fern?)

It's called the "green badge" in the Japanese version. In fact, all of Kanto's badges are named after the names of the cities.

It has at least 2 official designs, I think. >>34450529 is the design sold as part of PokemonCenter.com's Kanto badge set, as well as shown in the anime as well as Origins. OP's I've only seen in that art.

So what I'm getting is the design I posted in the OP is from an art book and because Bulbapedo is using said design on the Earth badge page, it got a lot more publicity despite running in contrary to every iteration of the Earth Badge in the games, movies, events, TCG, manga, and the anime. Talk about a confusing influence.

Expected a higher enamel badge quality work for $180, or at least the medals being made of silver, I know Pokemon has also approved a jewelry line with Swarowski crystals in Japan (not the brand itself).

It's just the official art being weird. There are also two distinct Rainbow Badge designs that get thrown around. One had has what part sitting inside a blue shape, while the other just has the white part overlapping the pedals.
