The mystical-magical box legendary god plots they started adding in RSE and beyond are contrived and extremely worn out at this point. I have to give SM credit for going in a more sci-fi direction, but it still makes does the whole "chosen one" thing with the MC and the Tapus. If I want to play a fantasy game, I'll go with Zelda or Mario. Pokemon works best in a semi-realistic world where Pokemon just happen to exist, because then kids can imagine that Pokemon might be hiding in the real world somewhere. The real world was actually referenced in Gen 1's flavor text.
