I know this is not right, but lets see at Bloodborne's Yharnam, if you analize the map it has lots of gamey designs, yet it manages to make you feel lost and believe this is a real city and not a fancy skin for a maze.
Alola has some good looking places but design wise there are only 2 variants, the straight line with some dead end branches or the "double path" that has a trainer/object in one path and tall grass in the other.
Vast poni canyon is the closest to a decent rpg dungeon design yet you have rirrie chan healing you and backtraking is not that hard.
