additionally, showdown provides a way for people to play competitive pokémon without the hurdles built into the game, while also giving access to a huge number of different metagames, including the standard ones like OU, lower tiers where "muh bro" is viable, weird ones like mix and mega, old gens, and even anything goes if you hate their bans and tiering system. on top of that, they provide competitive analysis and a forum to host a competitive pokémon community.
/vp/'s hatred for smogon is entirely irrational, and is mostly fueled by people that don't play competitive pokémon. seriously, even if you have legitimate complaints about smogon, and you've played enough competitive pokémon and lurked their forums enough to have an informed opinion, it still doesn't justify the extent of the dislike displayed on /vp/.
