I am not the biggest fan of gen 7 and I’m sure many here agree, but there’s one thing it did better than previous generations: make Pokémon seem like living things rather than just weapons.

Totem Pokémon. Pokémon giving you rides. Pokémon refresh. The nebby arc. Ultra beasts. Necrozma acting as a primary antagonist. The tapus.

The games weren’t great, the battles were too easy, the story was boring, but if there is one thing we have gained from gen 7 it is the knowledge that gamefreak can make Pokémon about Pokémon.
