X and Y were akwardly paced and had their share of issues with gameplay and pandering, but they nailed online perfectly and made breeding and training up pokemon a possibility. Not to mention it was the first 3D handheld game so there was atleast and excuse of the large workload. Sun and moon are the third 3D sets of games so by this point youd think they would of ironed out all the issues. But for every one good idea they had, they shit the bed 5 times over. The game still lags and they took out the PSS online for an objectively worse online process. UBs, alolan forms and some neat features like seeing pokemons stats before you send them to the box or move relearner letting you get any moves in your level up were good ideas. But execution was poor. The story is awful because GF cant get into writing interesting chatacters. Cutscenes drag on and you often get multiple of them together only to show characters doing the same action poses again and again. New pokemon have extremly low encounter rates and there is barely anywhere to explore.
At least in my opinion, X and Y are the better games here. Not the best but better.
