USM improvements?

Considered getting either US or UM recently but find myself wondering if enough has changed if i own the previous title? e.g. same totem pokemon/story and if pokemon like the bug can still only be evolved on the 4th island (why gamefreak)

Couldnt remember name at the time, vikavolt being the bug. literally a waste of a slot in a nuzlocke because of when it evolved.

It’s mostly the same, but there are changes in what you mentioned. Some trainers have different teams and are at higher levels. Some have move tutor, egg moves, and tms now. Strong ones now have beneficial natures on top of ivs and evs like in the original. Charjabug evolves at blush mountain and there is a grass patch at Lanakila’s base to evolve the crab as soon as you get to Tapu village. Four totems are different with one of them being new. Allies also got changed outside of the first one.

Oooh yes. They tried to fix it but screwed up the consistency of some characters and the story itself compared to SM

There are some normal, superficial, third version differences but even new totems and a "boss" battle aren't incredibly challenging. Surfing and move tutors giving you early BP/good moves really screws with balance to boot.
Looker missions and Zygarde hunt is removed, replaced, but removed if you invested in any of those.

Storytelling took a major nosedise because while the major events don't change, the context of them does and this fucks up several key events. They cut the huge cutscene at the start of the game but everything is just as tedious if not more so.

I'm mainly interested in the nuzlock aspect. Repeating it on S/M was horrible because of the hours of pressing A to skip all the story shite

Lusamine's everything becomes quite muddled and roundabout when you take her actions in the context of US/UM but most of her actions are copy/pasted from S/M.

Ultra Beast's lore from the previous game is also disregarded due to how their energy flares up and catching them in ultra wormholes. Various other things as well but these were bigger problems.
