I bought a Switch and Pokken.. but I feel fucking retarded playing it. It's my first fighting game.

Are there any tips you can give me? Helpful YouTube channels? Anything? I really want to git gud at this game.

Go thrrought the whole tutorial, trust me it is very helpful wth combos and controls, play with differnt characters until you find affinity with the one you like the most, and play online from time to time

I bought pokken a couple of days ago and picked up scizor and so far I have had a good experience. Going through the tutorial is helpful, but I think like with most fighting games you really just need to pick a character and stick to it, learn its postives and negatives, form a playstyle etc.

Play every character and figure out who you enjoy playing the most. Don't just mash heavy attacks and projectiles. That shit might work against dumb AIs but won't help with online and tournaments. The former especially is quick to get you punished. By punish I mean capitalizing on mistakes at the right time and right way. Getting back to the point where you have or will discover the character or characters you enjoy the most. It is up to you to study that character's best and worst match ups. Pokken really does not work like a lot of fighting games so keep that in mind to.
Figure out which assist packs you like the most. Personally I like fennekin/emolga and reshiram/cresselia but you might not.
I don't know anything about Pokken channels.

Keep in mind the rock, paper, scissors (guard, throw, attack) aspect of the game isn't black and white. Some attacks/moves are plain bullshit and tend to have priority over whatever that fuck you're doing and it's something you're going to have to learn by experience or looking up.

Also don't expect fair matchups, but that goes for any fighting game. Some matchups you just can't win if your opponent knows what they're doing.

There is the Pokken Arena website+forums which has a lot of helpful info but its not very lively since community is stuck on discord most of the time (ask for an invite and they'll let you join 100%). For videos search for PuppyHavoc on Twitch, he's a Garchomp main and streams frequently, he also has links to guides/relevant discords in his profile description.

Pokkenarena.com has constant updates, a sort of Serebii for Pokken.
Plus the site has a dedicated discord server that is always active.
Plus the best players of each character have made dedicated servers that really help learning and getting good at your character.
The whole community is extremely friendly, I really recommend joining at least the main discord if you want to get good, since there are a lot of professional players constantly asking for friendly matches and are willing to help.

It's unfortunate because the game it really amazing.

The fighting game genre is already has a tiny niche in terms of participants that tend to condense around a handful of games. Add Pokemon to the equation and the niche further shrinks. Between a casual and seasoned Pokken player the skill gap becomes obscenely widened and there's hardly anyone in between to fill it.

No, it's just the entire community is on Discord which is heavily active, you won't find shit on /vp/ because people on here know little to jack shit about fighting games are anything competitive outside of TCG or VGC to some extent.

Granted it's small, but definitely not dead. Pokken is just pretty much "reborn" after the Wii U version dying and DX adding a lot of shit that requires the scene to grow all over again.

It's already as bad it gets, with the genre being niche. Pokken has a community that most anime and indie fighters wish they could even have.

Imo the saving grace for this game was the platform and franchise. The gameplay is not something fighting gamers want, but what is best for devs keeping the game intuitive and accessible.

Well, discord is a social platform that suits the community better than an anonymous image board. /vp/ has Pokken players, but what's the point of a general when it isn't going to be active and posting for a match would have longer wait times than regular matchmaking?
