I haven't played a played a Pokemon game since Diamond/Pearl and I blindly jumped ship into US when I recently got a 3DS.

I don't know if it was the boldest decision to skip a couple of gens (and Sun/Moon), but I heard the biggest complaint about recent gen is Game Freak stripping or removing a lot of cool features that was introduced from the previous games. I mean, I enjoy US so far, but I've been on and off on it and I can't figure out why.

Is it even worth visiting B/W and X/Y despite some of its flaws (I have Omega Ruby btw)?

Gen V is worth it for a fresh take with the first set of games only having new pokemon until the postgame. The second set of games, B2 W2 have a lot of fun things to do and a different route through Unova plus a wide variety of pokemon to counter balance the new pokemon only setup from the first games. They're also the last set of sprite based mainline games, so I find myself coming back to them a lot on that alone. I don't stick to the 3D ones very well, as I finished Alpha Sapphire and Sun, but I also own X, Omega Ruby, and Ultra Sun.

The two games you missed are HeartGold and Black 2 (or the other versions of those obviously). Make sure you play those.
