What is it about gen 5 and its soundtrack that, for lack of a better term, hits so close to home? It’s just so melancholy and beautiful and sad. The games weren’t even that great but now I’m filled with memories of it all.

It’s just me, right?

Black wasn't my first game, either. In fact it was either Blue or Yellow, can't recall. Early teens is the sweet-spot for liking games. It's late enough in life to have more memories and be somewhat good at games, but also young enough so that nostalgia does have an effect. The "magic" is still there, if that makes sense.

It's just the nostalgia kicking in.

Despite Red being my first game I don't feel sadness listening to those old chiptunes. Not even the credits music was all that bad, it just feels so hopeful and upbeat as if it were giving you the notion that your journey wasn't over.

What always gets me is credits theme for Gold/Silver. The gentle ending theme on the The End screen when it's over also kills me. I had been playing Silver for a lot longer too at the time I guess. It sounds more final as if something had finally come to a grand end which is partially right as Pokemon for the old school Gameboy was finally done with.

Yes. Gen 5 was ass and the soundtrack is barely worth mentioning bar route 9 and BW2 champion theme.

I feel the same way, but can explain why it feels bitter sweet looking back. I was in my final years of highschool when Gen 5 began. In a way, that gen is defined the closing of my childhood, and into the dark abyss that is adulthood and current Pokemon games. Hearing the route 10 theme makes me want to go back so bad.
