Most of the complaints people have with the switch to 3d in gen 6/7 are bullshit, but Feraligatr, alongside Sandslash, Haxorous, Blastoise, and a few other pokemon have really poorly proportioned 3d models.

I preferred his original sprite colours to be honest. But the blue in Crystal was still fine. I actually think his 3D model proportions, while they could be improved, are better than the HGSS ones and close to the original.

Normally I'd be fine with them flying but it pisses me off so much that they look like they take damage in double battles from shit like Earthquake but they don't. It just seems fucking lazy as to why they do their hurt animation when they're immune.

Doesn't bother me they fly at all but this is a legit complaint. I guess it's because damage isn't calculated until after the animations played because team mates with Telepathy do the same.

Those smogon sprites are taken from the Pokemon Summary screen, in actual battles, all Pokemon have animations they do. But they still move some in that summary screen as well.

It's weird, I never realized how inconsistent Starmie's colors are until they were lined up like this.

Also, note that it only seems like the first three generations of Pokemon struggled with the transition to 3D. Gen 4 and 5 Pokemon seemed to haven't been hit quite as hard. I'm wondering if certain design principles changed between gens 3 and 4 to keep everything consistent.

They should have had different idle animations for battle/not battle honestly.
Doubly weird since some idle animations are clearly battle oriented like hitmontops little fighting stance dance and greninja. But then you get the likes of delphox and these two that just stand there like traffic cones.

Having Pokémon do little idle animations like the "original" examples in these pics would be nice for the overworld if they were following you, then have them switch to the more dynamic ones in a fight. Would be a good way to fix the "always gliding" Pokémon too I guess.

That's in-game. The ones on the right is what happens if you just take the gen 5 colors and apply them to the textures. You get an oversaturated flying cheeto that looks like shit. If you take those gen 5 colors and set them to about 50% opacity, though, you get the ones in the middle. A nice middle ground where they're MORE colorful, without being TOO colorful.

Picture related, it's one of charizard's textures.

Am I really the only one who doesn't give a shit about the lack of infinite full-blast fire on the model? It doesn't feel realistic at all, it would be better if maybe they toned it down or made it full-blast occasionally in another animation that still happens frequently enough that you know it's happening.

Oh yeah, their current stance is pretty terrible. As it is they remind me of a Fire/Normal type since they look very plain without the fire. Having less intense flames that flare up when they attack could be interesting though

Wrong, they match the sugi art. The sprite colors were just oversaturated.

There are some exceptions, though, as >>34546476 and >>34543768 show, but generally speaking the model colors match the sugi art way more then the sprites do

For most, I prefer the Gen 1/2 artwork. For a few though, the original poses are lacking. That said, I highly prefer the watercolor style of the originals in every case.
