So what does /vp/ think about the shift in tone for the Champion theme that started in Gen 5? I mean for the first four generations it was a lot more intense and intimidating whereas the newer ones are more, lighthearted so to speak. I'm not saying they're bad, just different.

I liked Iris's and Diantha's themes, they were different but they still felt climactic and fitting for a final battle. Battle At The Summit and Hau's theme, on the other hand, are pretty bad.

I felt the newer themes highlighted the battle itself instead of the Champion's status as a strong trainer. As if instead of saying "you got this far, now defeat the strongest trainer in the region to proclaim yourself the Champion and live happily ever after" it's more like "you got this far, your prize now is this grand high-profile battle fit for a dedicated warrior" or something. I like that kind of in-game setting, even though some Champions like Diantha are absolute pushovers.

Diantha's theme is my favorite Champion theme alongside Red/Lance.
I really like what the Title Defense theme is going for (Pokemon main theme + Alola region musical motifs because it's the protagonist's battle theme), but the execution could've been better.

in BW2 I think it was a nice change of pace, your character passed through a lot of shit in the game like being almost murdered by ghetsis, iris theme is basically "you have reached this far but in your last battle let's have fun"

Yeah, I can't stand both. Especially when the E4 theme just before is actually perfect, intense and a bit nerve-wracking.
