No coincidence that Charizard was purplish pre-gen 4, when his shiny is suddenly changed to black.
A lot of green-ish pokemon turn just an awful vomit color, blue turns purple, and reddish Pokemon turn green.
Espeon and Umbreon were intentionally given their pallets, too, however; Specifically, Espeon is a Carbuncle and Umbreon likely represents Eclipses (Solar eclipse, is my guess. Fits with the fact that it glows brightly for a moment.)
