If based in Italy I could see them doing something like this... Colusseum is where Pokémon battles originally took place. Each region has there own thing, Alola adopted trials, similarly this new region adopted a new battle system because Scientists say “Stats are just made up” so they have their own Stat classification which simplified things and makes battles different, etc, etc

Health, Defence, And Special Defence are merged into Health and Armor (AKA Special Health)

Speed retconned into Stamina

Attack removed and is now based on moves

Battles are real-time but attacks have cool downs which take longer based on how low the stamina bar is

Burst bar increases in battle letting Pokémon perform Z-Moves or Mega Evolution (Which have both been retconned into Burst)
