It was the only mainline game that I didn't end up playing religiously after getting it (I haven't touched it in 5 days. I have no desire to deal with the wormhole game). Think I might just grab the Switch game and dip out of the series, maybe get new Mystery Dungeon games if they don't suck. At least the older games still give me joy.

Because you always get a slightly improved third version, not a THIRD and FOURTH version to suck out your money while giving almost no new content in return.
The only previous time we got 2 "third" versions was BW2, which was indeed a sequel. It was only logical to expect the same thing now.

Yeah? Platinum is the same exact game with a linear dungeon at the end. Emerald is a little bit better considering that it tries to modify the game a bit.

admit? there have been so many threads talking about how disappointing these games are and how Gen 7 is the lowest point in pokemon history. There isn't really anything to admit when most people on here agree it wasn't very good. Gen 7 has almost no replay value because of all the handholding and unskippable tutorial/cutscenes

You should've just waited for the next installment on the switch. Game Freak knows they can just shit out "sequels" with little effort because people will buy anything with the name "Pokémon" on it.

Yes, USUM are legitimately bad games. I've been playing since Blue version and I received a copy of Ultra Sun this Christmas. I've just beaten the second trial and I can't bring myself to play anymore. If it didn't have the Pokemon brand slapped on it, people would acknowledge that the gameplay is shit. It's basically cutscene, press A to win, then cutscene. Even the developers acknowledge that they are making the games like that to appeal to mobile gamers. But even mobile games have better gameplay than this.

I've said this before and I'll say it again.
USUM is good gameplay wise but sucks storywise and because GF put so much emphasis on the story, its weakest point, many people's first impression is to consider it a an inferior cashgrab. When you ignore anything that has to do with the story it can be easily compared to previous third versions. USUM has an expanded pokedex, better trainer AI with higher pokemon levels, less tedious methods to get pokemon that were locked until late game SM, and easier breeding thanks to the Dittos in KoniKoni. I'd also take the Photo Club over an empty lot any day of the week. The only non-story related thing I find better done in SM is Lana's trial (I view Hapu being replaced by Dulse/Soliera as story stuff). Really, if GF hadn't placed such a spotlight on the plot USUM wouldn't have had the backlash it has now. Just look at how misleading the trailers are for fucks sake. I could go on about how much the story sucks though, so I'll just stop here.
