The typical failsafe for Pokemon currently is making the totems/gyms beatable by catching some specific Mon that is around.
Maybe trade the player Mimikyu perhaps, sometime before the battle

Photon Geyser ignore abilities. You can't really just force cheeses not to work because they serve their intended purpose. It provides an alternative means of winning without brute force and makes people (and kids) use strategy for once.

Giving it a Magic Guard effect or something just because people are angry others cleared the boss in an easy way is stupid.

This. Part of Pokemon's appeal is team building different strategies to get around obstacles, forcing that to not work by saying the game rules don't apply for this boss because you can only beat it a specific way is harshly against the spirit of the game.

I would keep topsy turveying the boosts into disadvantages for it though just cause that feels like a legitimate useable tactic and its exclusive to one pokemon (aside from Smeargle) who most might skip.
