I was confused reading this as a kid. Is this a "real" Venusaur in the context of the manga? Like could a trainer catch it? Or it just a tree in the shape of a Venusaur?

It was a Venusaur that defended the townpeople from unknown enemies. then suddenly a tree grew up from its back and it became their god/guardian deity as pictured.

pretty sure no trainer can catch it in this form, it's dead and became a tree, and pokeballs don't work on trees.
